It was a wet morning for the monthly bird survey with the Tempe Birdos. This made photography challenging. Not that many birds were out in the rain, the thick clouds made the lighting very poor for bird photography, and its not good to get your camera too wet.
Despite these challenges, we saw some interesting birds and fascinating behaviour.
While the group was gathering, one of the members, Ben, pointed out a lot of small green frogs that were on the Lomandra.
They were Eastern Dwarf Tree Frogs.
When the group split up, I was in the party surveying Tempe Reserve. Here are some of the birds we saw –
Grey Butcherbird
Australian Magpie
The Magpie was sensible, sitting out of the rain on a picnic table under one of the shelters.
White-faced Heron
Australasian Figbirds
These ones were bathing in the rain from the top of a tree. They would turn upside down and let the water run into their wings.
Great Cormorant
Magpie Lark
Australian White Ibis
Laughing Kookaburra
As usual, the survey ended with morning tea at one of the picnic tables at Tempe Reserve.
