Fungi at Sassafras Gully – 9 April 2021

This was another good day of walking in the bush and looking for fungi. I did find some nice fungi – although it was not very abundant.

Craterellus cornucopioides

On this trip, I went down to Glenbrook Creek via Fairy Dell and Magdala Ck, then walked upstream to the Lagoon, then exited via Sassafras Gully Road. Here is some of what I found along the way –

Perhaps Hydnum repandum –

Clavulinopsis sulcata –

Hygrocybe miniata –

Russula rosea –

Craterellus cornucopioides –

I was pleased to see this trumpet fungi in a new location.

Hydnellum sp. –

Ramaria sp. –

Now, for some discs, the second is Discinella terrestris.

Unknown Polypore

I found more examples of a species I have found a lot ow over the years. I have no idea what it is. It grows on soil (or rocks).

Perhaps Clavaria tenuipes

Ramariopsis pulchella –

This polypore was growing on a live tree. It looks very similar to the species I had seen earlier growing on dirt.

Cyptotrama asprata –

Hygrocybe miniata –

Entoloma viriscens –

Geoglossum cookeanum –

Urnula campylospora

Cortinarius sp. –

Hygrocybe miniata –

Drechmeria gunnii –

Clavulinopsis amoena –

Microglossum viride –

Urnula campylospora –

Pseudohydnum gelatinosum –

Clavulinopsis fusiformis –

Drechmeria gunnii –

Hygrocybe miniata –

Ramaria sp. –

Ophiocordyceps robertsii –

Russula sp. –

Gomphus sp. –

Perhaps Ramaria anziana

Entoloma viriscens –

I got lost here on Tuesday. I set off from Fairy Dell along the Magdala track and eventually came to (maybe not in this order): Magdala Falls, Martins Falls, the t-intersection to Lost World (down to my left), a sign that said Yondell Road exit in 3kms and Perch Ponds campsite. I could not find the Yondell Road or Martins Lookout exits or even the path to the Victory Track! I wandered around and scambled up the mountainside looking here there and everywhere but to no avail – I conceded defeat and went back to the creek as my point of reference and found my track and staggered 9kms back to Springwood. It turned out to be tiring and stressful. There were next to no signs and the river flooded in March so alot of trees were down and tracks overgrown. I saw that fungi you saw, tho… some so fluroescent… amazing.

Yes – the track is currently in bad shape after storms – both last year and this year. Although recently some logs have been cleared out the way. There are signs at all the turn-off tracks. Only one I think is not very obvious – and that is the turn-off for the Victory Track which is at a creek crossing. There is a large sign – but it can be missed. But at other places – the track is easy to miss – eg at the creek crossing where the track leaves Glenbrook Creek and goes up Sassafras Gully Creek.
