Wolli Creek and Cooks River Walk – 25 April 2021

I decided to make a visit to my local area to look for fungi and birds. Not that much fungi was out – but I did better with the birds.

Golden Whistler

I started by catching a bus to Bexley North and then set off down the Two Valleys Track, and walked all the way to Tempe.  At one spot, I looked for an interesting polypore fungus – and found it was sill growing at the base of a tree –

Abortiporus biennis

This polypore, Abortiporus biennis, often seems to exude droplets. Apart from this, I did not see a real lot of fungi out.

Here are some of the birds along this section –

They are a New Holland Honeyeater, a Grey Fantail, a Red Wattlebird and a Rainbow Lorikeet.

I stopped for a while at the Grey-headed Flying Fox Camp.

And then I spotted a raptor fly past. I think it is a Collared Sparrowhawk.

it was being harassed by Ravens.

At Turrella Reserve, I saw some Superb Fairy-wrens

At Tempe, on the far side of the Cooks River, I saw this Australasian Darter

And in Gough Whitlam Park, following advice from fellow bird observer, Mark, I saw this roosting Nankeen Night Heron
