I had a book launch to go to at Warrimoo. It was a nice day, so I thought it would be good to walk to the venue from Blaxland.
I started down the Pippas Pass Track, which leaves Blaxland from just behind the library. This is a good track down a nice valley. At the first creek crossing I was pleased to find a series of Aboriginal axe sharpening grooves.
As you proceed along this track, there are many side tracks branching out to various other places (mainly to other roads of Blaxland). I choose one side branch that descended very steeply to Glenbrook Creek.
At the creek, I walked upstream, following a much rougher track for about 200 metres to a damp and dark grotto. Just above I could see a old steel ladder than leads back up to the main track. To get to the ladder I had to scramble up a few greasy bluffs to a higher ledge. The ladder itself presented a few problems! The bottom few rungs had rusted away. The first rung was about head high, and that was rusted through on one side. I could grab it and use some footholds to pull myself up. A it awkward and tricky!
Then I was back on the good track once more. I kept following it along a ledge above Glenbrook Creek to where it turns up the creek going to Florabella Pass.
The track continues up the creek, well above the creek, which is confined in a narrow rainforest gorge below. Eventually the track drops down to the creek and crosses it a few times before climbing up some old steps to Florabella Street in Warrimoo.
