I had recently been doing a lot of fungi walks, and thought it about time to see some other environments. So I decided to visit Malabar Headland to see if the Peregrine falcons were found, see what other birds were in the area, and also to look for any passing whales.
I had a pleasant day. I had a brief glimpse of one Peregrine Falcon fly out from the cliffs and then fly away. It was too fast for me to get a photo, and I could not spot it perched on the cliffs in the direction it had flown.
I later spotted a very distant Nankeen Kestrel perched on a pole in the rifle range – far too far away for a decent photo.
On the walk in I saw a few New Holland Honeyeaters. Here is one –
I did see some passing Gannets –
While waiting to see if Peregrine Falcons were about, I spotted a seal asleep in the water below –
At one time, it suddenly awoke and dived to get away. I thought a shark may have appeared. No – it was another seal. The second seal had arrived and gave the first one a big shock. They soon both settled down to sleep.
I only saw one whale, and it was quite distant – but at least out was breeching.
