It had been raining. A tiny amount. Enough to entice fungi out? Perhaps? But probably not. I wanted to check out Bola Creek again, so headed down there with Digi Dave.
There was not much fungi out, but there were as always, interesting plants and animals, including a large flock of birds that all of a sudden took off from their perches in the trees. An amazing sound as they simultaneously took to flight.
Our backup plan was to do some whale watching – so we next headed to the lookout above Otford. It was pleasant sitting in the sun. We had lunch and looked out for whales. After an hour or so – we hadn’t seen a single whale, so we headed off back up the hill.
Digi Dave suggested stopping to have a look at nearby Kellys Falls. These are in Garrawarra Conservation area near Helenburgh. They are very high up in the catchment of the Hacking River.
Above there falls is a nice picnic area and a track – The Princess Marina Cliff Walk. We saved this for another time. We took the other track, to Kellys Falls, a very short distance away. These falls are just above the junction of two creeks – Kellys Creek and the smaller Gill Creek. The falls in Gill Creek are known as Juliet Falls and it seems the ones in Kellys Falls are Romeo Falls. Together, and with smaller waterfalls, they comprise Kellys Falls.
It is an attractive area and we spent a while wandering around with our cameras trying to get good angles. The larger waterfalls mark the start of Undola Canyon – the upper part of the Hacking River.
