Malabar Headland – 24 June 2021

Malabar Headland is a nice place to spend some time. I headed out that way to see some whales and hopefully some Peregrine Falcons.

With track work being undertaken, you cannot walk from Magic Point Boora Head, so I stared this time from Malabar and walked out to Boora Head. On the way out, I could see a whale breeching, not that far out. But I was a fair way from Boora Head, and I walked fast to the cliffs for a better view.

It turned out this was the most active whale pod I saw all day in terms of breeching.

Now for some birds.

New Holland Honeyeaters

Crested Terns

Australasian Gannets

Great Cormorant

I saw a Peregrine Falcon fly past along the cliffs, low down, but I didn’t have time for a photo. I looked to see if it had perched on the cliffs but could not spot it. I later saw it fly back – again, low down and fast, and again – no chance for a photo. During my is it there was a strong wind from the north – so that may explain why the birds were not in their usual perches.
