After seeing good fungi out in other parts of the Lane Cove Valley recently, I though it about time to check out the valley below Thornleigh. I caught a train to Thornleigh and walked out to Thornleigh Oval and then down the track to Lorna Pass and The Lane Cove River.
The good fungi started at the river – in a patch of rainforest. As I continued down the river, I came across small patches of fungi, but they were spread out over a long distance. I continued down to Browns Waterhole, and then went about another kilometre to check out another site before returning back to Browns Waterhole where I checked out an Aboriginal site. Then, after lunch, I walked out to Eastwood via Terrys Creek.
Here is some of the fungi I found along the Lane Cove River.

I also saw a lot of orchids as I walked along the river. Here are some –
Pterostylis grandiflora –
Mosquito Orchid – Acianthus fornicatus –
Pterostylis nutans –
Sundews
Drosera binata –
Drosera spatulata –
Near Browns Waterhole, I checked out an Aboriginal engraving site. Previously, I had seen a few sharpening grooves and a set of engraved Kangaroo footprints, but my friend Bob had told me there was a lot more to see. Sure enough I spotted quite a few engraved Kangaroo footprints. Probably 6 our 7 sets.
Then after lunch, I set off up Terrys Creek. The habitat seemed a bit drier than the main river and I found less fungi than I expected. Here is a selection –
Hygrocybe reesiae –
Hygrocybe austropratensis –
Hygrocybe leucogloea –
Hygrocybe aurantiopallens –
Hygrophorus involutus –
Hygrocybe cantherellus –
