Cooks River Birds – 27 June 2021

Day 1 of the lockdown. I went for a short walk in the afternoon down to the Cooks River, and completed a circuit – walking up to the Boat Harbour and Sugar Mill, then crossing over and walking around the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands, then walking back downstream on that side and then to home.

Great Egret

I took a camera, and took a few photos of the birds I saw along the way.

Here is a Rainbow Lorikeet

At the Boat Harbour, I soon spotted the resident pair of Tawny Frogmouths.

I counted 25 Little Black Cormorants on the pollution boom.

And around 50 on the protected area –

One Little Pied Cormorant was fishing.

The Little Black Cormorants were carrying on.

On the far side of the river, I saw some movement. It was a Striated Heron.

Then the Little Black Cormorants started taking off and flying down the river.

A Magpie Lark flew across the river.

Walking downstream on the far side, I saw another Little Black Cormorant –

And a Little Pied Cormorant perched in the sun.

Then a lot more Little Black Cormorants few down.

And one more Magpie Lark.
