Cooks River Birds – 29 June 2021

Day 3 of the lockdown. A bit wet. In the afternoon, I decided to walk down to the Cooks River for some exercise. This time, once at the river, I decided to walk downstream. I walked all the way to Tempe Reserve, walked around it and the walked back.

As usual, I took a camera with me and took a few photos of the birds I saw along the way.

Here are some Starlings having a bath –

A Magpie Lark

This Willie Wagtail was hunting for insects. It uses its wings and fan-tail to startle insects and then grabs them.

Further downstream, I saw a few Cormorants perched on a dead tree.

Little Black Cormorant

Little Pied Cormorant

Here is a Little Black Cormorant taking off –

At Tempe, this Great Egret was hunting for fish –

At Tempe Reserve, I had to sit under shelter for a few minutes to sit out a storm.

I saw this Striated Heron on the Alexandria Canal –

I watched this Little Pied Cormorant hunting for fish, without much luck, before it took off.

My last visit the Cooks River was very crowded. This time with wet weather, it was a lot quieter. But I did run into Jacob exercising on his bike and Sunil – also riding his bike.
