Day 16 of lockdown. I decided it was about time to walk down Wolli Creek again and then return home by walking up the Cooks River. Along Wolli Ck I saw birds and fungi, and then more birds along the Cooks River.
Along Wolli Creek, I saw quite a few birds in the upper part between Bexley North and Bardwell Park. Here are some photos of Welcome Swallows at Illoura –
In some of the photos, even at this small size, you can justice the insects they are about to eat.
Here is a Grey Fantail –
And I saw at least two Spangled Drongos that seem to be overwintering along Wolli Creek.
And an Australasian Figbird –
Here is a male Golden Whistler –
And last, a White-browed Scrubwren –
Now for some of the fungi that I saw along Wolli Creek.
Here is an Earth Star and some coral fungus –
Cruentomycena viscidocruenta –
Clavulinopsis sulcata –
Clavulinopsis amoena –
Hygrocybe virginea –
Russula rosea –
Russula persanguinea –
The ones above were all close to the climbing area. The ones below were downstream of Turrella Reserve, near an old quarry.
Hygrocybe collucera –
Gliophorus graminicolor –
Gliophorus chromolimoneus –
Hygrocybe sp. –
Hygrocybe batesii –
Hygrocybe griseoramosa –
Geoglossum sp. –
I then continued downstream to the Cooks River junction at Waterworth Park. The focusses back to birds. Here is a Willie Wagtail –
At Tempe, I crossed ove to near the station to photograph a White-faced Heron, a Little Pied Cormorant and a Little Egret –
Then approaching Illawarra Road, I spotted a Sacred Kingfisher. I stopped to watch it for a while.
It soon caught a crab.
Then it seemed to rest for a while.
It coughed up a pellet.
The pellet would contain a lot of undigested bits of crab shell. It was soon after more food.
Another crab –
Crab 3 –
Then a second Sacred Kingfisher turned up.
More crabs.
One last bird – a Little Pied Cormorant.
We saw a figbird at Cooks River a bit up from junction with Wolli Creek – on Marrickville side (near Aboriginal poles and big fig), were googling to see if anyone else had seen one along Wolli Creek etc and found your blog. Incredible photos 🙂
