Cooks River Bike Ride – 29 July 2021

Day 33 of lockdown. Another exercise beak along the Cooks River. This time it was a bike ride with Digi Dave. I took a camera with me and took a few photos of the birds we saw along our ride.

We met at the bridge near the old Sugar Mill, and we first rode upstream along the southern bank. We rode up to Canterbury Road, then crossed the river and went downstream on the north bank.

Here are some birds we saw early on –

Little Black Cormorant

Rainbow Lorikeets

At the Boat Harbour, we soon found the Tawny Frogmouths.

We continued downstream. Here is an Australasian Darter near Illawarra Road –

A little further along, we looked for and found one Sacred Kingfisher.

The tide was too high for it to hunt for Mudcrabs, but it found a tasty worm in one of the gardens near the track.

We continued on to the junction with Wolli Creek. Here is a Little Pied Cormorant

And an Australasian Darter drying its wings –

A Little Black Cormorant flying upstream –

And two more in the river in the Billabong and Gough Whitlam Park –

And a Little Pied Cormorant also in the Billabong –

We had lunch break at Gough Whitlam Park and then rode back upstream. It had been good to catch up with Digi Dave.
