Greenway Bird Survey – 10 November 2021

Another early morning bird survey. This time along the Greenway between Taverners Hill and Hawthorne Light Rail Stations.

King Parrot

I was quieter than usual when we met at Taverners Hill Light Rail Station with the light rail being out of action for a long time.

We spotted a pair of King Parrots at the station, and saw some other birds –

Red Wattlebird

Little Corella

The path below was quieter. Here is a Australasian Figbird

Past Marion Street, we saw an adult White-faced Heron

On the previous Greenway surveys we had seen this Heron’s chicks in or nest their nest. Now they had left the nest and we saw them along the canal –

David Hair spotted a small flock of Topknot Pigeons fly high overhead –

And near Hawthorne we saw a tree with quite a few Australasian Figbirds

Amongst them was a Red-rumped Parrot

And we saw this Grey Butcherbird feeding its young –

After the survey, I was intending to head out to Malabar Headland once more, but turned back due to heavy rain.
