Blue Mountains Bushwalking Day – 11 November 2021

Thursday was the day I usually head off for a bushwalking trip with old mate Bob. With a bad weather forecast we thought a trip to see some waterfalls in the Blue Mountains could be sensible. On the day we visited three areas – the first at Valley Heights and the next two at Leura.

Valley Falls

At Valley Height we visited Valley Falls a small waterfall that I had never been to. It was a short walk to reach it via Valley Height Fire Road from the eastern end.

We walled down the fire road for about 20 minutes then followed aside track a short distance to the falls. The rock near the falls were very slippery because of recent rain so we had to be careful.

After a few photos we walked back up the same way we had come. This small waterfall is well worth visiting.

We then drove to Lawson and stopped for morning tea, and then headed to Leura. We had heard that Leura Cascades had reopened after a landslide and these beautiful waterfalls are a nice to see on a wet day.

We started by walking out to Tarpean Rock.

Then out a side track to the lookout above Bridal Veil Falls, the upper waterfall of Leura Falls, which start just below the cascades. Luckily the mist cleared while we were there.

Then along the Prince Henry Track down to the cascades.

After seeing the cascades, we continued on to the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls.

The track was closed beyond here, so we could not continue to Leura Forest. So we climbed back up and then continued on a lower track that gradually climbs back up to the top of the cliff.

It was now too misty to continue on the Prince Henry Walk, so we walked back down a new track to Leura Cascades carpark then back u the other side to Bob’s car.

Our third walk was out to Golf Link Lookout at Leura. From there we intend to explore some tracks that headed out towards Sublime Point.

Not far along we found some nice orchids –

At the lookout, we could see Microstrobos Falls, but the flow was disappointing. This waterfall lies between Gordon Falls and the Gordon Falls Lookout.

We then started dot along a track that gets towards Sublime Point.

The track was in good condition and well made. We passed some nice lookouts above Lindeman Falls.

We followed the track to a road, then followed a second section that went to the back of more houses. It looks like there is an old track that goes all the way to Sublime Point behind the houses. We didn’t go all the way, and walked back the same way. Just before we got back t Bob’s car it started raining very heavily. We had timed our walk well.
