I had a busy first day of Summer, visiting Sydney Park and then Barton Park and later walking home via the Cooks River. I will keep this post for Sydney Park only. I had some good photographic opportunities with the birds there.
Here are some of the birds I saw –
Laughing Kookaburra
Galahs
Royal Spoonbill
Little Pied Cormorant on nest
Australasian Figbirds
While I was watching the Figbirds, I saw them cashing insects many times.
Australian Reed-Warbler
By this time, The Little Pied Cormorant had left the nest to hunter some food.
Australasian Grebe
There was one Grebe in the large pond.
Eurasian Coot – juvenile
This Eurasian Coot has a newly hatched chick.
The Royal Spoonbill had moved to the large pond where it rested and preened.
Near the Frog Pond, a Buff-banded Rail made a brief appearance.
And here are some Magpie Lark chicks in their nest –
On previous visits I had seen a nesting Tawny Frogmouth with a chick. Their nest has now been abandoned and I assume the chick has fledged successfully. But, despite a lot of looking I could not locate them in the park.
And for some Turtles –
And some Stinkhorns where out after recent rain.
I then caught a bus to Barton Park to see what birds were there.
Thank you for sharing gorgeous photos as always. The Royal Spoonbill was really awesome!
