Mudlarks Cooks River Bird Survey – 14 December 2021

Another early morning start to meet the Mudlarks at 7 am at the Lang Street Bridge on the Cooks River for the monthly birds survey. This month the group surveyed downstream to Marrickville Golf Club and Wave Rock and back.

Early on, while on the bridge we watched a Great Cormorant struggling to eat an eel it had caught –

The Great Cormorant then flew off and landed on top of a light to digest its snack.

Lower down then river we saw a number of Australasian Figbirds

And here is an Olive-backed Oriole

Just before crossing over to the golf course, we watched some juvenile Welcome Swallows being fed.

Walking back upstream, we saw this Red Wattlebird

And back in Ewen Park for morning tea, we spotted this Pacific Koel nearby –

I then headed out to Malabar Headland for some more bird photography.
