Ku-Ring-Gai Heritage Walk – 7 January 2022

Bob was keen on a bushwalk and so was I, but the weather forecast was not great so we decided to do a walk in Ku-Ring-Gai National Park. Bob had researched some Aboriginal Art sites – and we decided to visit a number of these. It turned out to be a very interesting walk, and we only had a little bit of rain during the day.

During our walk, we visited number of very good art sites – some were caves and some were rock engravings.

There were also quite a few wild flowers out.

To find the rock engravings,  we looked at a lot of rock platforms. Some of the engravings were very clear (probably been retouched) and others were very subtle.

The site below was a major site with many engravings.

Another large rock platform nearby only had one engravings – this one of a fish –

And another rock platform had this coolamon –

This appears to be shield –

This cave was very good with a lot of hand stencils and a boomerang –

There were also some shells –

This next cave had a number of faint hand stencils.

Nearby was a great lookout.

The third cave had some very faint stencils –

And we also found some shells –

Then we checked out this site for engravings –

Its hard to see in the photo, but there was a huge whale engraving.

Then some rock tessellations –

Another site with some great engravings –

We then traversed a hill.

This could be a mundoe (footprint engraving) –

And another art cave. This had about 8 very faint hand stencils.

This creekbed had some sharpening grooves –

And we found this strange engraving –

This looks like another mundoe –

And a series of mundoes here –

This last photo shows a very faint engraving. Perhaps  snake or eel?

On our walk, we found a lot of art in a relatively small area. We intend to return and look for more nearby.
