It was great to be able to join the Tempe Birdos for their monthly survey and also their 10th Anniversary.
As usual, the group met at Tempe Wetlands, near the lower pond, before 8 am. Then one part of the group surveyed the wetlands and the other surveyed Tempe Reserve. Here are some photos from the wetlands –
Australasian Figbird
Red Wattlebird
Willie Wagtail
Australian Reed Warbler
Pacific Black Duck
And a lot more Figbirds –
And there were plenty of Cicadas –
And we observed a few frogs –
Then both groups met back together for morning tea at Tempe Reserve. We had a very nice morning tea and a council biodiversity officer presented anniversary T shirts.
Being in a group like Tempe Birdos is a great social activity and a very good way to learn about birds. Not only what they look like, but their behaviour and calls.
Later, on the Cooks River, at the junction of Gumbramorra Creek at Tempe, I spotted a Striated Heron –
