Sydney Park Visit – 7 March 2022

This day I was able to make a short visit to Sydney Park. Like before, it was quite wet at the park.

My aim was to try and find and photograph the Buff-banded Rails chicks I had seen, but not photographed, two visits back. A secondary aim was to looks for the Quails again.

Here are some of the birds I saw as I wandered around –

Tawny Frogmouths

Black Swan

The Island Pond was choked up with vegetation.

Little Black Cormorant

I later saw it hunting in the Island Pond –

And this Dusky Moorhen is standing on the vegetation.

This juvenile Magpie Lark is screaming to its parent for food.

The parent flies off and soon returns with a worm.

I had no luck with the Buff-banded Rails in the spot I had seen them earlier, but at the back of the Frog Pond, I saw small bird scurrying away without being able to identify  it. I went back t the path and spotted a pair of Buff-banded Rails foraging in the vegetation. Difficult to photograph. This was the best I could do –

I had also been a few times to the spot where I had seen the Brown Quails on my previous visit, without any luck, but one time I was lucky. A single Brown Quail was on the path and stayed long enough for me to get some nice photos.

By now, it looked like rain was approaching and not far off. There was also the sound of thunder. So it was time to head for home.

A few more photos.

And some colourful flies –

And a Dragonfly –
