Fungi at Ferndale Park – 11 March 2022

I was keen to get to and visit some local rainforest areas to see if there was any fungi out. So I chose to visit Ferndale Park at Chatswood. I had the option of extending the trip by visiting the nearby Blue Gum Reserve if conditions were good.

Despite good conditions for fungal fruiting, the amount of fungi I saw was quite low. I think most of what I saw had been out for a while and very little looked fresh. Local parks and grassy verges have had an amazing amount of fungi at this time, but I think it takes longer for fungi to appear in rainforest areas.

Here is some of the fungi I found –

Pseudohydnum gelatinosum

Stereopsis hiscens

Clavulinopsis amoena

Microglossum viride

Russula rosea

Cyptotrama asprata

Omphalotus nidiformis

And here are some slime moulds.

Trichia sp.

Ceratiomyxa fruticulosa

The areas close to Swaines Creek looks a bit scoured out due to all the recent  rain. But hopefully a lot more fungi will appear in the leaf litter higher up soon.

I did not extend the trip by going to Blue Gum Reserve.
