More Whale Watching – Bundeena to Marley Walk – 24 June 2022

I was keen to head back down to Royal National Park and walk along the Coastal Track south of Bundeena to look for whales and birds. This time I was joined by Sue. We travelled to Cronulla by train and then caught the ferry to Bundeena. We soon completed  the walk to the start of the Coastal Track and were in the bush.

First stop was The Balconies –

We paused many times along the way, looking for whales. The first thing I spotted however looks like a Dolphin –

And the birds, particularly the New Holland Honeyeaters, were prolific.

What is this? Perhaps a Dolphin or a Seal?

And now for a whale –

We had morning tea at Marley Head, and while we were resting a White-bellied Sea Eagle flew over us and out to sea.

And Gannets were also hunting –

We spotted quite a few whales. Most were not that active in terms of breaching or tail slaps. And many were a long way out to sea.

We also looked at the Aboriginal engravings in the area.

Here Sue is looking for more whales –

The sandstone here is also quite amazing in its colour and texture.

And some more whales –

On the walk back, I concentrated on some of the birds –

New Holland Honeyeater

Little Wattlebird

Rainbow Lorikeet

These New Holland Honeyeaters are all catching insects –

Back at Bundeena village, we had a very nice lunch at a cafe. Thanks to Sue for great company on the day.
