On my way home from the Maritime Museum, I stopped off at St Peters and spent an hour or two at Sydney Park. Like my previous visit, the Pacific Baza dominated my photos.
I had heard reports of there currently being two Pacific Bazas at the park – but I only saw one. It was easy to find, due to the noise made by Noisy Miners and other birds harassing it while it hunted in the trees. And when I saw another bird photographer pointing his camera up into the trees, I knew I was at the right spot. Here are some photos –
In the photo below, it looked alarmed. Another bird was swooping down –
Often when it takes-off other birds like this Currawong will harass it –
This time it is Noisy Miners –
A Currawong joins in the melee –
Most of its flights were short.
Here it is grabbing a Preying Mantis of some leaves –
More trouble –
And now it is grabbing another insect –
It was starting to get late, and I thought I would look around for other birds. Here are a pair of Australasian Grebes –
And one of a small flock of Galahs –
I looked around for Rails and Crakes but had no luck spotting any. Here is a nice rainbow to finish –
