After break at home due to bad weather and other commitments, I was keen to head outside. Perhaps too keen – as the weather was not that good. I first visited Sydney Park – where I spent most of my time photographing the Pacific Baza. Then I had lunch and headed to Barton Park. But while I was there – it was raining most of the time – so I left for home early.
The Pacific Baza at Sydney Park was easy to find. I walked around a bit and listened for Noisy Miners. When I could hear some in a confrontation, I walked closer, and when I saw Merril, another bird photographer I knew I was getting close. It rained lightly on an off for the next hour or so while I was following the Baza as it hunted in the trees.
I was trying to get some flight shots – in particular some sequences of it flying. And I did succeed reasonably well, but the light was appalling.
You can see the rain coming down now –
I left the Baza to see what else was around. I was quieter than I had been expecting. Here is one of the two Australian Grebes in the large pond –
And there were quite a few Hardheads –
And these Galahs were sheltering in this tree –
And a White-faced Heron comes in to land –
At Barton Park, I walked around a fair bit, but the rain was keeping the birds in their hiding places. Here are two birds –
Superb Fairy-wren
Yellow Thornbill
The wetlands were quiet, the sporting fields were quiet. I did see a Striated Heron at the far end of the Spring Street Canal – but at that stage it was too wet to unpack my camera.
