Wolli Creek and Cooks River Walk – 12 July 2022

After the Mudlarks Bird Survey, I was keen to check out the Wolli Creek area to see if any fungi was out. I was joined by Valerie.

We travelled by bus to Bardwell Park and then set off down the Two Valley Track. The fungi turned out to be very poor. The ground was perhaps still too waterlogged. We did however see a lot of orchids. All Greenhood Orchids of two species.

Pterostylis nutans

Slime MouldCeratiomyxa fruticulosa

Juts below Girrahween Park we noticed a flock of Variegated Fairy-wrens.

Pterostylis nutans

Cortinarius rotundisporus

Grey-headed Flying Foxes

More Greenhood Orchids – Pterostylis concinna

The Australian White Ibis were busy at Turella Reserve.

And a Superb Fairy-wren

At Waterworth Park we saw a pair of Eastern Rosellas.

And more Superb Fairy-wrens.

And the Tawny Frogmouths near the velodrome –

At Gough Whitlam Park on the Cooks River we saw moreĀ Eastern Rosellas.

And a Little Pied Cormorant.

It had been an interesting walk. I had been hoping for more fungi, but the birds were good. And thanks to Valerie for great company along the way.
