I travelled to the city and caught a ferry to Watsons Bay, then visited The Gap Bluff. From there, I intended to walk south along the Coastal Path.
At Gap Bluff, I found the high fences very frustrating for photography. I had to hold my camera very high indeed.
I was on the lookout for whales and birds, but it was pretty quiet at the start. Here is the Macquarie Lighthouse –
Just past the lighthouse, I ran into Biggles, another bird photographer. I asked him if he had seen the local Kestrel. He replied that he hadn’t.
I continued on towards Diamond Bay.
In the second gully, I spotted a Nankeen Kestrel perched on the cliff.
It suddenly took off, and then started hunting.
All of a sudden, it returned to almost the same spot.
I stayed to watch if for a while in case it would take off again. I was just about to go, when a Sulphur-crested Cockatoo flew down noisily and landed nearby.
This made the Nankeen Kestrel take off again, but it climbed and flew away to the south.
Further along the coastal path, I stopped for lunch, and then I spotted the Nankeen Kestrel hovering nearby. Now for some more photos –
It dived and grabbed something.
I continued on my way south.
Further along, I ran into Biggles again. It was at a spot I had previously seen Peregrine Falcons. We then waited around to see if any Peregrine Falcons would appear.
We then saw two flying a fair way off –
One of them did fly closer to us a few times.
And there were a few Humpback Whales around, but not really close.
The Peregrine Falcon ddi some more nice flying –
Then it was time for a bus to Bondi Junction and trains home.
