Birds at Tempe and the Cooks River – 12 November 2022

I started the day by taking part in the bird survey with the Tempe Birdos at the Tempe Wetlands.

Here are some of the birds we saw in the survey –

Chestnut Teal

Juvenile Magpies

Dusky Moorhen – chicks and parent

After the survey, the group had morning tea in Tempe Reserve. After that I walked home along the Cooks River. Here are some more birds –

Little Pied Cormorant and Little Black Cormorant

Olive-backed Oriole

It was a beautiful day, and a lot of people were enjoying the Cooks River.

I then visited the Tawny Frogmouth nest at Gough Whitlam Park. I heard that recently a chick had fallen out of the nest and was found dead on the ground. The nest is still occupied, so I think there must be more chicks.

Rainbow Lorikeet

Here is an adult and a juvenile Grey Butcherbirds at Marrickville Golf Course –

And a lot of Noisy Miners

I found the Tawny Frogmouth family in the Golf Course near Bruce St. Both parents and the two chicks seem to be doing well.

And a look in at the Dibble St Waterhole. Here I saw a Pied Currawong nest –

Later that day, at dusk, I cycled back over to the Bruce St Tawny Frogmouths. I wanted to photograph them as they awoke. Here they are –

Here some Noisy Miners are harassing an adult (from a distance) –

The rest of the family join it –

Sunset was at 7:33 pm. These photos were taken between 7:30 and 7:40 pm.
