Fungi and Birds at Birdwood Gully – 5 March 2023

The previous Sunday I had visited Birdwood Gully at Springwood, and I decided on a followup trip. Again I was concentrating on fungi and birds.

First, some of the fungi I found.

Boletellus deceptivus

Boletellus emodensis

And some more Boletes –

Hygrocybe sp.

I spotted quite a few red Hygrocybes out. Theyseem to be two species – some seem to have yellow gills and the other red gills.

Porpolomopsis lewelliniae

Clavulinopsis sulcata

I think this is Rimbachia cf. bryophila.

Here is another growing close to an Entoloma sp.

Tiny discs growing on a log. Probably Bisporella citrina.

Aseroë rubra

Entoloma virescens

It was a highlight of the visit seeing these beautiful blue fungi out again.

Ramaria sp.

Cyptotrama asprata

I spotted this beautiful coral fungus again. Possibly Ramaria sp.

And the strange polypore I had seen on the previous visit. It seems to be the same as the one we found the day before at Bola Creek.

I had seen this jelly fungus on a previous visit. It could be Dacrypinax spathularia, but it is quite large and distinctly funnel shaped. It reminds me of Tremiscus helvelloides  which I have observed in Europe.

Lactifluus sp.

Cantherellus concinnus

Sanguinoderma rude

And I am not sure what this one is –

Slime mould

And I saw two species of orchid.

Wasp OrchidChiloglottis seminuda

Greenhood OrchidPterostylis acuminata

And now some of the birds I spotted.

Grey Fantail

Black-faced Monarch

Red-browed Finch

Brown Gerygone

It had been a very pleasant trip.
