This was another walk down the Two Valleys Track from Bexley North to Turrella (and then a little beyond – to near an old quarry.
On the first section, heading towards Bardwell Park – very little fungi was out – things were quite poor. I kept going along the track and arrived at the rock climbing crag. This was where I had found some good fungi on recent visits. I did find a few green Hygrocybe graminicolor out, some black clubs and some coral fungi. But not too much.
Further down the valley, where the fruit bat colonies reside, was another place that I had found some good fungi a week or so earlier. But a week of dry windy weather had had a very detrimental affect on the fungi here. I only found a few dried out specimens.
After a short lunch break at Turrella Reserve, I continued on to near an old quarry close to the M5 Exhaust Stack. This was where a fantastic cluster of hygrocybes was found a week before (see earlier post). This area also had dried out a bit – but was still quite good – and I spent a fair while having a good look around and taking photos. As well as colourful hygrocybes, there was a wide range of coral fungi out in this compact little area.
Then I walked back to Turrella Station and caught a train home.
