Barton Park Birds – 18 July 2023

I sent a few hours around the middle of the day at Barton Park looking for birds. It turned out to be a fairly quiet time. I did see a Brown Goshawk perched in a tree near the bend in the cycleway, but it didn’t stay around long enough for a photo.

Here are some of the birds I did see –

Pied Stilts at the Landing Lights Wetland –

Yellow-rumped Thornbill

This Great Egret was hunting near the end of the Spring St Canal –

The Egret has a small fish.

Welcome Swallow

Back at the Wetlands. A New Holland Honeyeater

Superb Fairy-wren

Brown Quail

I often spot three Quails, but this time I only saw one.

White-faced Heron

Pied Stilt

All of a sudden, all the Pied Stilts took off and circled around. They stayed in the air for a fair while. They usually take to the air like this when a raptor is around. I looked around the sky carefully but could not see any.
