Northern Blue Mountains Heritage Walk – 24 August 2023

Bob and myself set out on a walk in the Northern Blue Mountains to look for Aboriginal sites. As these sites are sensitive and can be vandalised, I will not go into details of where we went.

As well as Aboriginal sites, we also witnessed an amazing display of wildflowers.

Grevillea sp.

We came to a large rock platform and we looked carefully for engravings and sharpening grooves.

We found an engraving. It is possibly an Emu.

And on the same platform we found some sharpening grooves –

And these could be Emu footprint engravings –

And there was a Kangaroo engraving –

More wildflowers –

Dillwynia elegans

A cave we visited had some ochre art. Here are two hand stencils –

And Bob found some work stone tools in the drip line –

Black-eyed SusanTetratheca thymifolia

These seem to be sharpening grooves –

And some more sharpening grooves –

Off to look for another rock platform –

This had been a very interesting and worthwhile trip.

I wonder if the Roo & Emu are related to the Pittwater D Emu?!
