Birds at Sydney Park – 18 October 2023

I joined Valerie and Sue at Sydney Park for a morning excursion. We wandered around talking and looking for birds.

Galah

Tawny Frogmouths

We spotted this nesting pair, but when we looked for the other nesting pair that I had spotted the week before  – we found no sign of them and only a remnant of their nest. Last week I had seen one chick. We looked in nearby trees hoping the chick had fledged, but had emo luck spotting it or its parents. I think it is likely that the chick may have fallen out of the nest in a storm since I last visited. The nest was quite high in a tree.

Rainbow Lorikeet

Australian Reed-Warbler

This Willie Wagtail is still on its nest, but I think there may be chicks.

Australasian Grebe

Channel-billed Cuckoo

A pair of Brown Goshawks circled over the park at one stage.
