I only had time for a short walk on this day, as I had spent a long time working at my computer processing photos of Peregrine Falcons from the day before. So I visited Wolli Creek Regional Park – and walked along the Two Valleys Track from Bexley North, through Bardwell Park, and down as far as the Flying Fox Camp, then returned to exit at Girrahween Park.
I would have liked to linger in a few places for longer. I heard plenty of birds on my walk, but I dint wait fro them to appear. At Paperbark Creek, I could hear the call of a Sacred Kingfisher. I sept a bit of time locating and photographing it.
Here is a New Holland Honeyeater –
At the old swimming pool, below the rock climbing crag, I looked up to see if the rock orchids were flowering – but they were not.
Then at the Grey-headed Flying Fox Camp, I tried to get photographs of them in flight – with babies holding on, but did not have much success. Also – it is the time of year that a lot of the females give birth – but I did not observe any while I was there.
It is not very clear in the photo below – but there is a baby clinging on to its mother –
And this one has a baby –
On the walk back upstream, I spotted this nice orchid – Cymbidium suave growing on a tree in Girrahween Park. I had never noticed it before, and it was a pleasant surprise. It was flowering beautifully, although you really needed binoculars to see the golden tresses of flowers.
