I decided to visit Rookwood Necropolis again, to get some better photos of the nesting Brown Goshawks and also some of the other birds there. This time I would spend more time there than on my previous visit.
I certainly got some much better photos of the Brown Goshawks. When I arrived, I could see an adult at the nest –
And the nestlings seemed to be doing well.
I had no luck at all with the little birds except some poor photos of a Yellow Thornbill. I could hear some Scarlet Honeyeaters high up in the trees – but they stayed up there.
Then I spotted an adult Brown Goshawk. It had some prey.
It is very hard to see the east clearly. But it looks like there are three chicks –
After looking around unsuccessfully for other birds, I could hear the Brown Goshawk nestlings calling out rather loudly. They were probably hungry. Then, nearby, I heard an adult Brown Goshawk calling. The young birds then stopped their calling – perhaps the parent had signalled them to be quiet or they had been reassured by a parent being close. If the nestling call out then they can attract predators.
