Birds at Sydney Park – 22 November 2023

I spent an hour or two at Sydney Park in the morning. It was relatively quiet while I was there.

In the top pond, I spotted this Australasian Grebe

I saw a few of these large wasps around –

On the bank of the large pond, I spotted an Australasian Grebe resting on the bank.

The Tawny Frogmouth nest at the bottom of the park was abandoned. I think this may be due to nest failure rather than young birds fledging. I saw no evidence of any chicks on earlier visits. And I did look in lots of trees and saw no Tawny Frogmouths. But they are easy to miss.

And at the lower pond, this Australasian Darter was drying its wings.

Then I spotted a Buff-banded Rail foraging around the shore –

Back at the Island Pond, two Willie Wagtails were hunting for insects.

And the Turtles were lined up –

And this Turtle was in the big pond.

Last – a Little Pied Cormorant
