More Birds at Sydney Olympic Park – 6 January 2024

I was keen to have another look for the Black-backed Bittern at the Narawang Wetlands at Newington, part of Sydney Olympic Park. So I went back, but again I had no luck spotting the bird. Like the previous visit, I also walked down to the Parramatta River and back.

Here are some of the birds I saw –

Little Pied Cormorant

Little Black Cormorant

Little Pied Cormorant

Butterfly – perhaps Common Australian Crow – Euploea core

Australasian Grebe

Golden-headed Cisticola

The Cisticola was on Woo-la-ra

Pelican

White-bellied Sea Eagle – juvenile

White-bellied Sea Eagle – adult

White-bellied Sea Eagle – juvenile

Golden-headed Cisticola

Cisticolas often take off and fly straight up in the air, and then return back down. Often they fly as far as 30 m up. I took series of photos of one flying to see if they fly up to catch an insect. This one didn’t, so perhaps its more courtship display flying or territorial?
