I headed up the mountains to Mt Wilson with Bob and Doug. The plan was to visit Why Do’t We Do It In The Road Canyon.
We had an excellent day. Setting off from the fire station at Mt Wilson, a short way along the Fire Trail we spotted this nice Diamond Python –
We were soon down the track to the canyon and at the first abseil. This takes you down to an attractive part of the creek.
We continued downstream.
The main part of the canyon is downstream. It starts with a nice abseil –
From here the creek is constricted all the way to the Wollangambe River.
Here is Doug on the second abseil in this section of the creek –
And Bob descending –
The third abseil in this section is down into this pool –
Doug abseiling –
Bob abseiling –
And then a short bit of very nice canyon formation.
At the Wollangambe River, we followed the ledges upstream to reach the pass back to the tops. Before climbing out, we stopped for lunch. A local Water Dragon joined us –
During lunch, we had been hearing the rumble of thunder, and as we were climbing out it started raining. Light rain at first, but it got heavier.
During the last ten minutes of our walk out – the rain was torrential. We were glad to be out of the canyon. Later observations showed 31 mm fell at Mt Irvine in about an hour.
