Birds at Barton Park – 9 January 2024

After the Mudlarks bird survey, I joined three of the participants – Simin, Valerie and Georgie for a visit to Barton Park and Landing Lights Wetland. It was quite hot by this  stage of the day – and we didn’t see that many birds, but it was still a worthwhile visit.

Here’re some birds seen at the Wetlands –

Pied Stilt

We could hear the call of a Little Grass Bird and a number of Cisticolas.

Leaving the wetlands, we found we could access the old sporting fields.

Galahs

A Nankeen Kestrel was hunting in the fields –

The Kestrel then flew out of the fields.

Near the end of the Spring St Canal we saw a number of Australian Reed-Warblers. Here is a poor shot of one –

We then went back to the old sporting fields. The Nankeen Kestrel  had returned.

It had been short bit worthwhile visit. It was also good to catch up again with Georgie – who moved to Goulburn, and was back on a work visit. And – also thanks to her for driving us all to the park.
