I decided to do a walk down Terrys Creek to see if any fungi was out, and also to look for birds. I started from Epping Station and walked down to the creek via Pembroke St. I then walked down to Browns Waterhole where the creek meets the Lane Cove River. I stopped there for lunch, and then walked back to where I had entered the creek, and continued walking upstream, and exited at Eastwood.
There was not that much fungi out, but what I did find was interesting.
Calocera sp.
I am not sure what this is –
Ramaria sp.
I think this is the same species I had seen a few days earlier in Birdwood Gully at Springwood. These are the only two places I have seen it. At Terrys Creek it only appears at one spot along the creek. It seems to appear early in the fungi season.
Bolete
And some more of the pink Ramaria sp. a short way upstream.
In this spot, I have also seen Powerful Owls. I did a lot of looking up into the trees, and thought I had spotted one – but looking more carefully, it turned out to be a Brush Turkey.
I think this is Amanita ochrophylla –
Near Browns Waterhole, I could hear a Rufous Fantail. It was flitting about in a dark spot filled with Lantana and other weeds.
And with it was a Brown Gerygone –
I then left the Terrys Creek track, and met another bird photographer. While chatting to him, an Eastern Whipbird appeared –
There were plenty of Bell Miners –
Walking back up Terrys Creek, I noticed some Bonnet Orchids – Cryptostylis erecta
This polypore was growing at the base of a tree. Perhaps Inonotus albertinii –
Further along I did spot a pair of Powerful Owls.
Amanita ochrophylla
And I spotted some Coprinellus disseminatus –
These were growing on a rock. Looking closer reveals the mushrooms are covered in very small droplets –
Slime Mould – Lycogala epedendrum
