A wet and cool day was forecast, so any plansĀ for a canyon trip were put on hold and a few ideas for bushwalks were discussed. I was heading up the mountains with Bob. On the day – it was quite wet, and the best option seemed to be a walk close to waterfalls, which would be more spectacular than usual and with some shelter. National Pass fitted the bill.
We started from the Conservation Hut, and walked along the Undercliff Track towards Wentworth Falls. On the way, we deviated down Den Fenella, always a worthwhile side trip.
At Wentworth Falls, we descended down the steep steps to the bottom of the upper waterfall.
The waterfall had a nice flow – but it was far too wet to set up a tripod to get some good photos. As it turned out – it rained more of less continually for all the imd of our walk and this made photography quite hard. I had to wait for overhangs to unpack the camera.
We followed along the National Pass – most of the way was quite dry, the track being sheltered by overhanging cliffs towering above.
As we approached the Valley of the Waters, we could hear the roar of waterfalls – made more powerful by the rain. It was quite spectacular, but agin too wet for careful photography. I took a few snaps as best I could.
We then climbed up the track out – stopping for lunch in one of the caves on the way. It was an early finish to the walk as we arrived back at the Conservation Hut around 1 pm. This was a wet day, but still it was very pleasant to be in the bush. The waterfalls were certainly very impressive.
More photos of the walk are online on my website here.
