I like to visit the Vivid Light Festival held in Sydney at this time of the year, when it gets dark early. The lights turn on at 6 pm, and that’s when I met Sue at Circular Quay. We first visited the Customs House –
We thought the art here, by Reg Mombasa was very good. We watched the whole cycle.
There were neo installations towards the Opera House, so we then went around to the Museum of Contemporary Art. More good art –
Next we walked past a long section of food trucks.
The art projected onto the Opera House was a bit underwhelming this year. Not very vivid compared to previous offerings.
This building was vividly lit –
There were a few more insulations as we headed to the Harbour Bridge.
But the western side of the bridge was very quiet – a lot of walking and not many installations. The installation we did see were very average. Eg a few electronic candles arranged on the foreshore.
I liked the one with the pulsing lights. Sue didn’t.
The light projected onto the water in Darling Harbour was quite good.
And further south were machines which took a photo of you and them used AI to compose a poem –
And the last one we saw was puzzling –
It took us a while to work out if it was a projection, or individual video screens or actors behind actual windows. We eventually concluded it was the latter.
We finished off our walk at Central Station.
Conclusions – a lot of walking, and a lot of food stalls, but not that much good vivid art.
