After seeing the great fungi at Bola Creek the day before, I thought it worth having a look along Wolli Creek. I went to Earlwood and set off from Girrahween Park, first walking upstream a bit beyond Paperbark Creek. I then went downstream to the a short way beyond the climbing area before walking back to Girrahween Park. What I spotted was encouraging.
I didn’t find a real lot of fungi, but I did at least find some interesting fungi. And it looked like more was emerging. Continue reading
I once again joined a walk of the National Parks Association of NSW led by Brian Everingham. This time we went around there Forest Path in Royal National Park and then had a look for fungi along Bola Creek.
On the walk was Brian, Valerie, Sue, Deb, Gina, Suzanne and myself.

On my previous two trips to Barton Park, I had been successful in photographing one of the Australian Spotted Crakes at the Landing Lights Wetland. But the photos had been poor – taken looking into the light. I decided an afternoon visit might be better. It was. I had nice light, and one of the Crakes did appear twice.
When I arrived, a White-faced Heron had just landed in the Spring St Canal, but it had landed too close to another Heron and they had a bit of “issue”. Continue reading

I joined a group from the National Parks Association of NSW for a walk from Bundeena to Jibbon Headland and then circuit around the headland and back to Bundeena for lunch at the club.
The walk was led by Brian Everingham and on the walk was Valerie, Sue, Suzanne, Derek, Lynnette, Kye, Max and Anna, Maurice, Vivienne and myself.

I was keen to have another look at the fungi at Springwood, and so decided to visit Birdwood Gully again. Conditions were reasonable, but it was starting to dry out. And there was some fresh fungi.

I went on an afternoon walk down the Cooks River to look for birds. I took my camera.
My first stop was at the Biddle St Waterhole. On previous trips, there had been a Sacred Kingfisher there. No sign of it this visit, but I did spot a single Tawny Frogmouth perched in a paperbark. Continue reading
I was on a Fungi Survey at Ferndale Park – part of the activities program of the Sydney Fungal Studies Group Inc. Members and visitors met at the end of one of roads near the park – and we were soon on our way along the track down Swaines Creek.
We soon spotted some fungi. Fungi was quite abundant, but also well past its best. A lot of it was falling to bits or had dried out. Continue reading
This was another morning visit to Barton Park to photograph birds.
Like my previous visit, I was hoping to photograph an Australian Spotted Crake. But this time, I had to be a lot more patient. I eventually spotted one, and only got some pretty average photos.
The other birds I saw were a bit different to what I had seen on my visit two days earlier.While waiting to see if the Crake would appear, I seemed to spot a lot of other small birds. Continue reading
After finding some great fungi in Birdwood Gully at Springwood two days before, I thought it would be worthwhile having a look to see what was around in Sassafras Gully on the other side of Springwood.
On this trip, I entered the gully from the track at the end of Sassafras Gully Road, and continued down to Glenbrook Creek, then went back up the gully and out via the Wiggins Track.
The fungi was not super abundant, but I did find quite a number of interesting species. Most of the fungi was found along the bottom of the valley – near the main creek. Continue reading
