Wolli Creek Fungi – 20 May 2023

I joined a large party from the Sydney Fungal Studies Group, Wolli Creek Preservation Society and visitors, to conduct a fungi survey in Wolli Creek Regional Park. The area that was surveyed lay between Girrahween Park and The Flying Fox Camp. All this land is within the Wolli Creek Regional Park.

During our survey, we found a good variety of fungi out including quite a few waxcaps and corals. Continue reading

Birds at Barton Park – 19 May 2023

This was another afternoon trip to Barton Park to photograph birds. I only arrived close to 3 pm and stayed till about 4:30 pm. This time my visit was relatively quiet.

Birdwood Gully Fungi – 18 May 2023

Valerie joined me for a very pleasant day in Birdwood Gully at Springwood looking for fungi. We found some nice fruiting fungi on our visit.

Birds at Barton Park – 17 May 2023

This was a short afternoon trip, mainly to look for birds at Landing Lights Wetland.

Lane Cove Valley Fungi Walk – 16 May 2023

This was an excellent day where I walked from Macquarie Park Station to Chatswood visiting three main fungi sites along the way. During the day, I found some excellent and very interesting fungi.

This is a small rainforest remnant along the Land Cove River that often has interesting fungi. The main one I was looking for – Gliophorus psittacinus group, was not out yet, but some other nice fungi was. Continue reading

Wattamolla to Eagle Rock Walk – 15 May 2023

Classic coastal walking Royal National Park. I joined Brian Everingham and party from the National Parks Association of NSW for a walk along the Coastal Track.

In the party was Brian, Valerie, Suzanne, Paul, Amy and myself. We started from Wattamolla and first walked past the lagoon to Providential Head. On the way we passed these nice wildflowers, which Brian Pointed out and named them as Chloanthes stoechadis. Continue reading

Wolli Creek and Cooks River Walk – 14 May 2023

Some rain was forecast, but by mid morning, the weather was quite reasonable, so I decided to do a local walk. This time I caught a bus to Earlwood, and started at Girrahween Park, and followed the Two Valleys Track through Wolli Creek Regional Park to the Cooks River junction, and then I walked up the Cooks River to the Marrickville Golf Course.

I mainly photographed fungi along Wolli Creek, and was pleased that some interesting species were out. I also photographed birds, and concentrated on this along the Cooks River. Continue reading
