Bob and myself were heading up the mountains for a day of canyoning. However the weather was not the best – a little wet and quite cool. So Dalpura Canyon sounded like a good canyon to visit, and that would mean we could also check out the pagodas at the end of the Jinki Ridge.

I joined Brian Everingham and others from the National Parks Association of NSW for a visit to see the birds in the wetlands at Sydney Olympic Park. We had an early start, meeting near Lake Belvedere at 7 am.
in the party were Brian, Valerie, Helen, Allen, Suzanne and myself. The day was quite wet and we did a fair bit of photography under umbrellas. But it was World Wetlands Day and we didn’t mind getting a little wet. Continue reading
This was an excellent day out enjoying Royal National Park. Digi Dave was keen on a day out and we travelled in his van to the sooth end of Lady Carrington Drive. Our plan was to look for fungi along Bola Creek and then walk around the Forest Path – looking for both fungi and birds.

A hot day was forecast, and t looks like being hot everywhere, so I decided to head to Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside early in the morning and remain there until it got too hot. The plan was to spot and photograph birds.
It turned out to be a reasonable day and I stayed till around 1 pm. By that time the temperature was around 31°C. The warm conditions meant that a lot of the birds were hiding in the shade, and also the noise of cicadas made it hard to hear bird calls (or perhaps the birds thought it not worth competing with the cicadas). This was a very pleasant trip to camp on a ridge in the Upper Blue Mountains with a group of friends. Wendy had suggested the trip and Don had organised it. We were joined by Digi Dave, Enmoore, Pete and Stephanie.
The weather was a littler rainy, but that did not hold us back. We didn’t have far to go and we soon reached the high top on the ridge. We then walked around a bit looking for a good campsite. Continue reading
I spent a nice day on the Northern Beaches visiting various venues to look for birds. I first visited Warriewood Wetlands then Irrawong Reserve, and then back through the Wetlands and along Mullet Creek back to Pittwater Road, and then headed to Long Reef.

Four days earlier I had been on a trip down Birdwood Gully on the north side of Springwood and the fungi as well as the birdlife had been quite good. So I was keen to head back and this time visit Sassafras Gully on the south side.
Sassafras Gully is a much longer walk than Birdwood Gully and usually offers a lot more to see. This trip I started down Fairy Dell and Magdala Creek and walked to Glenbrook Creek and followed it upstream to the Lagoon, then walked out via the track to Sassafras Gully Road. Continue reading
This was a nice day spent canyoning in the Blue Mountains with some old friends. We headed up to Mt Wilson and then headed down to the Wollangambe River and crossed it, and then entered Water Dragon Canyon. This took us back down to Wollangambe Canyon -and we visited a short section of that before exiting up the track we had earlier gone down.
In the party was Bob, Ian and Airdrie and their daughter Ella, and Doug and his daughter Sophie. We met at a private house at Mt Wilson where Ian and Airdrie were visiting a former work colleague. This property had a back route to the fire trail which shortened our walk in. Once on the track down to the canyon we could not help noticing a lot of changes – the track has been upgraded with many constructed steps (but no railings). Continue reading
It was good to catch up with Valerie and Sue for a nice day out – the morning spent at Sydney Park, then to Gough Whitlam Park on the Cooks River for lunch and a look a for a few more birds along the river.

This was for me an unusual trip – a visit to a church to take some photographs for an old friend, Keith. He was after some photos of some items displayed inside the church for publication he is working on and had obtained permission for this from the church authorities.
So I met up with Keith at North Sydney and I set up my tripod inside the church and took series of photos. After this I took a few photos of the outside. Continue reading
