I spent a nice day at Bola Creek looking for fungi. A reasonable amount was out. On this visit, I walked in from Waterfall Station via the Couranga Track. Later, however, I was about to walk out, when I ran into Ken and his friend John. I ended up staying a little longer showing them some of the fungi, then accepted a lift back to Heathcote Station.

Some wet weather was possible, so I thought a short excursion would be suitable – so I decide to head up to Springwood and check out the fungi in Birdwood Gully.
On my visit, it only rained for a very short time. The fungi was not super abundant, but I did manage to find some nice species, and I also got the impression that a lot of fungi were starting to appear. Continue reading
I was nice to join friends walking for a few days in one of the most spectacular parts of the Northern Blue Mountains, along a section of the divide between the Wolgan and Capertee Rivers. The trip was essentially a repeat of a trip I had been on back in 2013. Martin was on that trip and had suggested repeating it for this walk. Also in the party were Su Li and Brent.
I had originally suggested a repeat of a trip I had done in much the same country back in 2018. But the others wanted to do a circuit walk rather than an out and back trip. I was OK with this, but must admit that I had major misgivings when we arrived at the start – the carpark for Donkey Mountain. Most of the carpark was overgrown with head high weeds and other post bushfire regrowth. I feared the thick regrowth may extend a long way up the ridge we planned to ascend onto the tops. The Easter walk I was going on wasn’t starting till Easter Saturday, so I was able to join Gary and Allen on a morning of photography at Oatley Park.

The day before I had been fortunate to hear about a new species of Flying Fox at the Turrella Camp on Wolli Creek. The light had been very bad for photography when I visited in the late afternoon, so I thought I would return to try and get some better photos. I also decided to first visit Sydney Park to see what birds were out.

I had a pleasant afternoon ramble along Wolli Ck, walking down the Two Valleys Track between Bexley North and Turrella. Earlier on the day, a friend, Deb, had told me about some new Flying Foxes that had appeared at the camp near Turrella – and that was one thing to look out for.

I spent a very pleasant day wandering along the Sassafras Gully Track looking for fungi and slime moulds. In started from the track at the end of Sassafras Gully Road ad walk down to Glenbrook Creek, then continued down to Perch Ponds and then back to Springwood Via Magdala Creek and Fairy Dell.
The fungi was very nice, not a huge amount was out, but I did find some interesting species. The track however had been hammered pretty badly from the recent spell of wet weather. There were a lot of fallen trees, especially just below the junction of the Victory Track and then a lot all along the section of Glenbrook Creek. Continue reading
