This was my third repeat walk from Waterfall, down the Couranga Track to the Hacking River and around the Forest Track, with a stop at Bola Creek to look for and photograph fungi.
I was hopeful that some fungi would be out after a recent (24 mm) fall of rain. A lot of the fungi that I found was a bit old and dried out, butt here was enough fresh fungi to be found that I would have liked more time in the area. Continue reading
This was another exercise walk down part of the Two Valleys Track along Wolli Creek. This time I walked from Bexley North to Turrella Reserve, and then back to Girrahween Park and Earlwood.

Another bike ride out along the Cooks River Cycleway to Homebush Bay with some stopping along the way to photograph birds.
My first stop was at Mason Park Wetlands. In Powells Creek, I again spotted a Great Egret hunting for fish. This time, it caught a very small fish, then flew off into the wetlands. Continue reading
This was more or less repeat of the exercise trip I had done on 23 April. I stared off walking through Tempe Wetlands, then visited the nearby wastelands and continued around Tempe Reserve. Then I made my way to Barton Park.
Like the previous trip, I did not see too much at Tempe Wetlands. Things were very quiet. At the wastelands I looked around for the raptors I had seen on previous visits – but no luck this time. I did have some success photographing some smaller birds. Continue reading
I made a repeat trip to Oatley Park for my exercise walk. My previous trip had been very good for exercise – the tracks were not crowded and there had been a fair bit to see. But my bird photography and not been that good. I was hoping to do better this visit.

I had not been satisfied with what I had been able to photograph the day before at Barton Park, so I decided to make another visit. But this time, instead of starting out at Tempe, I decided to start out at Sydney Park.
I found Sydney Park a bit crowded, and after making a few circuits of the ponds, I thought there was not too much to see. So I left and caught a bus down the road to Barton Park. I went first to Landing Lights Wetland. It was much the same as the day before had been. Not many birds in the main pond. I did spot a few Black-fronted Dotterels like the previous day. For my exercise this day, I did some walking around Tempe, and then more walking at Barton Park.
At Tempe I visited the Wetlands, but they were very quiet. Not many birds were active or visible. I then continued to Tempe Wastelands, and walked on the high path above the airport, past the Container Terminal, to the wastelands. On my previous trip I had spotted some nice birds here, and had a good photos session with a Black-shouldered Kite. This time I spotted a few Red-browed Finches. Here is one – Continue reading
My choice for an exercise venue was Nurragungy Reserve at Doonside. This tune out to be good – I travelled there on nearly empty trains and there was plenty of room for walking around without seeing too many other people once there.
I walked around the Reserve a number of times along the various trails. I paused a few times to photograph birds. At Nurragingy, on earlier trips I have looked out for Azure Kingfishers. I spotted one fairly soon after I arrived, but it soon flew off, and I didn’t see one at that pool again. Continue reading
My exercise this day was a long walk around Oatley Park. It was a pleasant day, perhaps bit warm. I carried my camera and photographed some of the birds I saw.

For my exercise I caught a bus to Tempe then did a walk visiting the Tempe Wetlands, then the wastelands near the Golf Firing Range and Container Terminal, then around Tempe Reserve. Then another short bus trip to Barton Park for the second lot of exercise.
On my walk, I encountered a fair number of birds. The Wetlands at Tempe were very quiet. Hardly any birds in the trees or in the ponds. It wa also quiet as I made my way along the track through the wastelands. Again it was quiet, until I got to near the landing lights for the airport – the lights for the main runway. Here I saw a number of small birds . They included a Nutmeg Manikin, a Brown Honeyeater, Red-browed Finches and Silvereyes. Continue reading
