I made another visit to Rookwood, with the hope of getting more photos of the pair of juvenile Brown Goshawks. Unfortunately, this visit, despite a lot of looking, and listening, I failed to find them.
And, with hot weather, there were not a lot of other birds out. Here are some that I saw –

I once again, joined Brian Everingham and party from the the National Parks Association of NSW, this time for a visit to the wetlands of Sydney Olympic Park.

We travelled by train to Rhodes, then bus close to the Archery Centre. We then walked to the Waterbird Refuge at Bicentennial Park. Continue reading
I joined Brian Everingham and party from the National Parks Association of NSW for a visit to some wetland areas for World Wetlands Day.

We visited three sites on the day. The first was the Boat Harbour Aquatic Reserve at Kurnell. This is accessed from the Potter Point Road. After parking at the end, we set off south along the coast. Continue reading

It was a hot day, and I didn’t want to go too far, andI wanted to be in the shade, so I decided to visit Rookwood again.

It was harder to spot the two juvenile Brown Goshawks this visit. Last time, I mainly found them by listening for their calls. This visit, they did not call so much. Perhaps they had just been fed? Anyway, I wondered around the woodlands where I had seen them last time, listening and looking up into the trees. Continue reading

I spent another interesting and enjoyable day at Long Reef, mainly photographing raptors.

Like my previous visit, there were plenty of Ospreys and also a pair of Nankeen Kestrels hunting near the headland.

Sue joined me for a day visiting Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside. She had never visited this Reserve and we both enjoyed a very good day.

We caught a train to Doonside, and then walked the short distance into the Reserve. After visiting the coffee cart, we set off to see what birds we could spot. The highlights were Sacred Kingfishers and Pacific Bazas. Here are some photos – Continue reading
