Birds at Tempe and The Cooks Rivers – 14 September 2024

I joined the Tempe Birdos for their monthly bird survey. This month, I was in the group surveying at Tempe Reserve.

As usual the group meets at Tempe Wetlands at 8am. Here are a few birds from the lower pond –

Pacific Black Duck

Now, at Tempe Reserve. Looking on the far side we could see two Little Pied Cormorants and an Australasian Darter –

This Currawong has annoyed some Noisy Miners

Superb Fairy-wren

Little Black Cormorants and Pied Cormorant

Grey Butcherbird

The group finished with morning tea at Tempe Reserve. I then walked home via the Cooks River. Here are some birds I saw along the way –

I was pleased to spot a nesting Tawny Frogmouth at Gough Whitlam Park –

Little Pied Cormorant

This pair of Tawny Frogmouths at Marrickville Golf Course had not started nesting yet.

And I spotted another Tawny Frogmouth at the Dibble Avenue Waterhole –
