Another visit to Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside. Again, I was joined by Sue, and we had a most enjoyable and interesting day.
The day started off fairly quiet. We were looking for Pacific Bazas and Kingfishers. We did spot one Sacred Kingfisher along the perimeter firewood, but it was too fast for a photo. But after lunch things improved a lot.
Here are some of the birds we saw –
Laughing Kookaburra
Dollarbird
Eastern Rosella
Great Egret
Little Corellas
Tawny Frogmouths
We had spotted one Tawny Frogmouth earlier ,but later local expert, Wayne, showed us two more in a different part of the Reserve.
Note the different colours of the pair. The female is perched lower and is more rufous.
And here is the other Tawny Frogmouth we had found earlier. It is one of a family of four, and was the only one we could find this time.
Nearby, some Rainbow Lorikeets had found nice hollow –
We did two walks around the perimeter fire road, and both were relatively quiet with few birds seen. But on the second visit, at the Kookaburra Picnic Area, we spotted two Pacific Bazas.
This one is being harassed by a Grey Butcherbird –
Here is the second one –
Back to the first –
Back at the long pond, we finally spotted an Azure Kingfisher.
Little Pied Cormorant
Satin Bowerbird
Before we left, we had another look at the Pacific Bazas. They had moved, but were not far from where they had been.
