I decided to visit Malabar Headland, as the eastern part of the National Park would be closed later in the week because of a school holiday shooting events at the rifle range nearby.

My visit started off very well, when I spotted a Black-shouldered Kite perched in a tree near the ridge range fence. There were plenty of people walking past it, that didn’t seem to notice it.

The Kite took off and hunted briefly nearby.

I then walked out to near Boora Point. Early on, I spotted a Peregrine Falcon perched on the cliffs.

And then a second Peregrine Falcon arrived and landed nearby.

Way out to sea, I spotted this bird, which I think is a Northern Giant Petrel –

And further out a Humpback Whale was doing some tail slapping.

I saw no close whales during my visit.
Meanwhile, the first Peregrine Falcon was getting ready to fly.

The second was still there, but short time later it had taken off.

I then walked out to Boora Point. Here is one of three Black-faced Cuckoo-shrikes I spotted –

A bit later, a Peregrine Falcon flew past –

It circled around and then dived past the cliffs.

And it cruised past again.

It circled around and landed on a distant rock on the cliffs.

Then the second Peregrine Falcon flew towards it. It was the male, and the female was on the rock.

I saw then then mate, but pissed getting photos. It happened very quickly!

Here you can see the male flying away.

Then the male did a high speed pass.

The female was still on the rock –

The male flew past again.

The female then took off and flew out of the area.

I then headed back to Maroubra Beach. There were a lot of people on Magic Point. Most were whale watching.

So they are are back.Maybe this is the year!
Thankyou for all the wonderful stuff in between many case
Best wishes Ian
