Woronora Heights Walk – 14 July 2025

A new Regional Park had been announced by the state government at Woronora Heights near Engadine. It would be on land that was once formally owned by Sydney Water and had been earmarked for housing development. So it was good to see its conservation status being preserved. This is a very important area on natural land that links up with other natural areas in the Woronora River area. Brian Everingham had organised a walk in the area for the National Parks Association of NSW, and I joined the party.

Here are some photos from the day –

Red Wattlebird

Laughing Kookaburra

Grevillea sphacelata

Grevillea sericea

Boronia sp.

Leucopogon sp.

Grass Tree

We did a loop walk first off and returned to where the water pipeline from Woronora Dam comes out a tunnel heading towards Forbes Creek.

Lewin’s Honeyeater

Brown Thornbill

The water pipeline is classified with a heritage listing. It was constructed as a depression era work project.

Gymea Lily

Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Brown Thornbill

Grevillea mucronulata

At the bottom, where the trail meets Forbes Creek, we stopped off at the Boathouse Cafe for a coffee, then returned the same way – back up the pipeline. It had been a very pleasant walk.
